“It’s the pleats in the pants.”
Or in this case, the pleated midi skirt. Ron Burgundy, anyone?! Ahhh, even though this particular quote // film scene is absolutely in no way applicable to this outfit {or me}, I still couldn’t resist. Gotta have a little fun on a Friday, right?!
Since I’m a huge movie // music buff, you’ll quickly learn that majority of my everyday vocabulary stems from some sort of movie quote or song lyric. As in, it’s almost a guarantee that when speaking in normal conversation I’ll directly quote some sort of film or lyric to you. Does the person always pick up on it? Nah. But I sure laugh my buns off by myself.
In fact, this is how I knew my husband, Kurt, was my soulmate. Early on in our relationship, he quoted Sandy in Grease {one of my all time FAVs BTW – just ask my brother, Rob. We quote this movie All. The. Damn. Time.} when he was pissed off at someone by yelling at the top of his lungs mid-vent sesh “He’s a fake and a phony and I wish I never laid eyes on him!” Sandy voice and all. My heart was warmed; we laughed so hard that night we forgot why he was even mad – love that man.
Speaking of my sweetie pie hubby, this look is á la my surprise birthday celebration a few weekends ago that he planned for just the two of us. He knows I love surprises {and we’re HUGE foodies} so he planned one hell of a celebration filled with music + dinner at The Lexington in St. Paul. I of course had no idea where we were headed, but I knew one thing for sure – I was wearing this pleated midi wherever we went. Let’s just say if we would’ve ended up at White Castle for the night {zero shame here} I would’ve still rocked the shizz outta this pleated midi – with a side of chicken rings and all.
As far as the pleat trend goes, you can expect this fun fabric design will continue to be one of the hottest trends of the upcoming fall season. In this case, I suggest you stock up on some pleated pieces right meow. I’m sorry, did you say meow?
Have fun when styling your pleated pieces as the design of the fabric is meant to be eye catching; experiment a little! In the case of my bday suit {errr, not} I love the look of a casual ruffle sleeved crop slightly tucked into the pleated midi. For me, it is the perfect balance between the birthday girl // Queen of the Night vibe I was going for. What can I say? I’m just that way {Whitney Houston voice}.
What are your favorite ways to style pleats this season?!
Xx, Amanda
