The Contour – Part Un.
Contouring should be an essential part of your beauty routine as it allows you to define and highlight the shape of your face. It’s true, I make time every single day in my morning beauty routine to contour and highlight my face. Why? Because I notice a vast difference when I take the extra time to accentuate these areas. Personally, I like to contour in two steps with two different formulas. I understand that this two-step process may seem like overkill for some, but I’ve found that contouring with a liquid base first, sets the stage for an awesome result that’s noticeable, but still natural looking. Therefore, this week is Part Un of The Contour in the Holy-Grail Beauty Series.
As always, great results start with using a great product. To achieve a great contoured look, my absolute favorite product to use is this liquid Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer in the light and deep shades. They are truly my secret weapon in executing a killer contour after I apply my Luminous Silk Foundation; I’m obsessed!! So you may be asking yourself, how exactly do I contour? Let’s get down to the fundamentals.
Step 1: Determine Your Face Shape.
There are four types of face shapes: square, round, heart and oval. I personally have a square face shape; which shape are you? Once you’ve determined your face shape, you’ll be able to pin point the exact areas to contour and highlight. This is a key step in beginning the contour!
Step 2: Map Out Where to Contour with Your Deeper Shade.
To begin your contour, think of areas on your face that you’d like to define with your deeper shade. Areas such as cheekbones, temples // hair line, nose and jawline are all places on my square face shape that I contour with this deep shade concealer. Personally, I find it easiest to play a game of connect-the-dots in these areas versus drawing an actual line with the formula. Drawing a line down your cheekbone or jawline can create an unnatural look that can be very difficult to blend out, even with my trusty blending tool {more on this next week!}. In general, your contouring shade should be 2-3 shades darker than your foundation color.
Step 3: Highlight Your High Points with Your Lighter Shade.
Face shape aside, you always want to focus on highlighting the high points of your face with your lighter shade. For my square face shape, I focus on highlighting the center of my forehead, under my eyes, upper cheekbones, bridge of my nose and chin. Simply blend the light shade concealer out, and even slightly into the deeper shade, and you’ll be left with a gorgeous contour! Color wise, your lighter shade should be 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation.
I can’t wait for you guys to try out your contour with the lovely Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealers. Remember, Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea collection is only found exclusively here.
