A monochromatic black look is a winter must.
By far, one of my all-time favorite looks is rocking a monochromatic black layered ensemble for the wintertime. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s just something about wearing all black that gets to the core of me. We all have that one hue that we feel and look our best in and mine is a monochromatic black layered outfit.
Now, some may argue that wearing all black is a way to try and “hide something” because you’re uncomfortable with your body. This is completely untrue and probably one of the silliest things I’ve ever heard. After all, black is a neutral and rocking a monochromatic black layered look is classic; certainly not a concealing mechanism. Think of an all black look in this way: it’s simple, yet always on trend. It’s not subject to change with fashion seasons or the evolution of trends. Sounds like a win to me, right?!
So how do we achieve a winning a monochromatic black look? The key to any monochromatic black look is simple. Think about mixing layers and fabric textures. Lots of ’em! By mixing different layers and textures, you’re able to create a dimensional look that is still completely monochromatic, yet interesting to the eye. So let’s build this all-black layered look!
Creating your monochromatic layered look.
First start with your base: choose a great pair of black trousers {these are currently my fav!} or a pair of black denim. Next, we’ll want to pair our bottoms with a lightweight top that encompasses a fabric such as satin, to give a dimensional look that will be the foundation of your all black base. This satin lace cami gives me all the feels and is right on trend for this winter season. To begin the multi-layering process simply layer a lightweight duster cardigan over the top of the cami to give your layered look length and added texture. I’m obsessed with this ribbed duster because it gives this layered look that rib detailing that adds another element to my monochromatic black look. To top off my this essential winter look, I wanted to add a touch of edge {and warmth} by adding my favorite leather jacket. Leather too edgy for you? Girl, no worries! A few alternative layers aside from a classic leather jacket would be a beautiful suede or velvet option – you really can’t go wrong!
There you have it! A classic monochromatic black layered look that maintains dimension through the power of mixed fabrics and layers. Oh, and is anything but concealing.
What color do you love to wear as a monochromatic look? Tell me ALL the details! And while you’re at it, don’t forget to check out my way to wear a monochromatic red look that I debuted this past fall! Stay warm!
