I am Jon Snow.
JK JK! But after taking a peek at these pics, I sure can see the resemblance. Just in time for Halloween tomorrow! YAY! What can I say? I’m obsessed with a monochromatic black layered look paired with a good faux fur stole – just like my boy Jon.
Mr. Snow aside, one of my all time favorite looks is rocking a monochromatic black layered ensemble. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s just something about wearing all black that gets to the core of me. We all have that one hue that we feel and look our best in – mine is certainly a monochromatic black layered outfit.
Now, some may argue that wearing all black is a way to try and “hide something” because you’re uncomfortable with your body. This is completely untrue and probably one of the silliest things I’ve ever heard. After all, black is a neutral and rocking a monochromatic black layered look is classic; certainly not a concealing mechanism. Think of an all black look in this way: it’s simple, yet completely elegant. It’s not subject to change with fashion seasons or the evolution of trends. Sounds like a win to me, right?!
So how do we achieve a winning a monochromatic black look? The key to any monochromatic black look is layers and fabric textures. Lots of ’em! By mixing different layers and textures, you’re able to create a dimensional look that is still completely monochromatic, yet interesting to the eye. So let’s build this black on black layered look!
First start with your base. A great pair of black trousers {these are currently my fav!} or denim is perfect. Next, we’ll want to pair our bottoms with a lightweight top that encompasses a fabric such as satin, to give a dimensional look that will be the foundation of your all black base. This satin lace cami gives me all the feels and is right on trend for this fall season. Next, we’ll begin the multi-layering process. Layer a lightweight duster cardigan over the top of your cami to give your layered look length and added texture. I’m obsessed with this ribbed duster because it gives my look that rib detailing that adds another element to my monochromatic black look. To finish, I wanted to add a touch of edge {and warmth} to my look by adding my favorite leather jacket. However, alternative top layers aside from a classic leather jacket would be a beautiful suede or velvet option – all stunning choices!
There you have it! A gorgeous monochromatic black layered look that is anything but “concealing” and still maintains dimension through the power of mixed fabrics + layers!!
How will you be mixing your fabrics and layering for a monochromatic look this season?
Xx, Amanda
