Create your next travel outfit with these 3 tips.
I get it. Between packing your suitcase, the excitement for your trip, and making sure you don’t forget that one essential item, creating an outfit for your travel day can sometimes be the last thing on your mind. Since I’ve been traveling pretty frequently lately, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to provide you my 3 expert tips in creating a functional travel look for your next trip.
Jacket | Tee | Linen Pants | Espadrilles | Handbag {sold out // similar here and here} | Luggage
01. Comfort is key.
Let’s get one thing straight, when I’m traveling I don’t do anything binding and always choose soft cuddly fabrics. I’m a gal that needs her travel outfit to be all around comfortable, so I typically reach for leggings or a linen pant, along with a cuddly cardy and a soft tee. These choices provide ease of movement and comfort on a flight, yet still keep me on trend and put together when I reach my destination. After all, being comfortable doesn’t mean your not on trend!
My favorite trend this season is the coveted paperbag linen pants {these are only $25!!}. They’re the quintessential comfort bottom and a style that’s everywhere this spring and summer. Bottom line: you can’t beat a lightweight pant that feels like you’re wearing sweats and accommodates any activity you have planned when reaching your destination. A travel must!
02. Layers, layers, layers.
I’m always cold. Which is strange because as a native Northerner you’d think I’d be used to cold temperatures, right? Yeah, no. Not me. For some reason I’m always chilly and having my arms exposed while on a breezy plane is not the best scenario for me. Therefore, traveling with layers is an essential building block of all my travel looks. Think lightweight jackets, a cardigan or a trendy sweatshirt that can easily be removed or tied up around your waist for a warm weather look upon arrival.
For instance, with this look I went with this lightweight utility jacket that kept my arms covered all flight long and this soft tee that is perfect for travel. Upon arrival to Louisville, it was a simple removal of the jacket and off we went! Check out a few other lightweight jackets I’m loving for this spring and summer season.
03. Choose convertible or interchangeable pieces.
Similar to my utility jacket sitch, my travel shoes always have to be closed-toe and ones that can convert to my destination’s weather in an instant. Since we went from warm to warmer on our trip to KY, these espadrilles were an easy choice and a style I wore all weekend long. This espadrille flat {refer back to my post on this essential spring shoe trend here} is such a stylish closed-toe flat that easily transitioned to the southern climate and kept me right on trend for spring. I’m also loving this leather version and this fun embroidered version too.
For vacays that involve drastic climate changes, I’ll typically travel in my trusty sneaks and change into an easy slide upon arrival that was stowed in my carry-on bag. Either way, when creating your travel look always choose shoes, bags and jackets that will be interchangeable with your destination looks and easily convert from climate to climate.
Are there any specific pieces you always need to have on hand when creating your travel looks? Let me know the deets!!
As always, thank you for reading and sharing.

I always make sure to have a huge tote for all my carry-on stuff!
